Nothing is more distrissing than a toilet that is backing up. Even a failure to flush properly can be situation that's hard to live with. If you need your toilet repaired or replaced, or if you just have questions, we'd like to hear from you.
Types of toilets
Today's residential toilets are required to be a 1.6-gallon flush or less. Some toilets will flush on .8 gallons for liquid and the 1.6-gallon flush for solids. Unfortunately the less water flushed the more common the stoppage. If stoppages, or clogs, are occurring within your toilet, you may want to look into a “pressure assisted” toilet. These toilets have the same gallon flush capacity and look just like a standard toilet, however the use of compressed air allows the toilet to flush more forcefully and effectively.
Toilet Repair:
Thousands of gallons per year are wasted on leaking toilets . So it makes good economic and environmental sense to check for toilet leaks. To find out if your toilet leaks; add a small amount of food coloring to the tank and then check the toilet bowl water. If the water has turned the color added to the tank, water is seeping through from the tank, and you may need your toilet repaired. If water is seeping at the base of the toilet and onto the floor, in most cases the toilet seal needs to be changed.
Toilet Replacement:
If you’re planning on having the toilet replaced, the “foot print” of the toilet will be important. The measurement should be taken from the back wall (the drywall) to the bolts of the toilet. This measurement should be no less than 11.5 inches and no more than 14 inches away from the drywall. Next you will need to measure from the back of the toilet to the bolts, again from the bolts to the front of the toilet, and then from side to side for the width. Another item to remember when replacing the toilet is the type. There are two types of toilets, round front and elongated front. Elongated toilets are more comfortable to sit on and the inside of the bowl is kept cleaner because it is egg shaped and the front is further away than the regular round toilet.
